Are you a “reluctant organist”? Has your parish, knowing you play the piano, asked you to play the organ? Do you wish there was someone who could explain what all those buttons do, and why you have more than one keyboard? Well, help is at hand. Richard Nott is the Diocesan Lead for organist training. He will happily come out to your parish and give you an hour’s tuition by the end of which you will have a much better idea of what everything does. The cost of this? Nothing at all (if the journey is particularly long some help with travel expenses would be much appreciated!)
Organists from three parishes responded to the "Reluctant Organist" article. Richard visited each organist and helped them understand their instruments. He also gave ideas for repertoire and organ tutor books.
If you would like Richard, or one of the team, to come to your church then please make contact here:
Please don't forget that Andrew Wright and the Music Office team is here to help with any questions about or help with your instrument.
If your parish is thinking about replacing your current organ, or undertaking major work, such as cleaning, overhaul or rebuilding, in the first instance you should contact Andrew for his advice and guidance. Andrew is very experienced with the care of pipe organs, and has a lot of knowledge to share.
Within the team there is also a lot of experience and knowledge regarding digital organs, including all things Hauptwerk.
Our thanks to Graham Hillman for allowing the use of some of his photos on this site.
